Style Quiz

HomeGoods Stylescope Quiz - Urban Funk
When I first started blogging ( over 4 years ago, gasp!) I posted a lot of style quizzes. I think I'm mildly obsessed with them, I just love the minimal amount of input and somehow it comes up with something that fits you (somewhat) accurately. Well, recently I decided to revisit some of the ol' quiz links with the new man in my life (you know, so I could approve/disapprove of his style). Unfortunately many of the original links were broken, removed, defunct. I supposed I expected that of something that I posted so long ago, but needless to say I was bummed.

HomeGoods Stylescope Quiz - Spa Life
So this morning when I came across HomeGoods Stylescope quiz from How About Orange, I was so delighted. The best part? There's only one question! Give it a try and see what you are. I'm Urban Funk with a touch of Spa Life. I'm also rather fond of Modern Metro.

Also, I want to note that this quiz and results page has an abundance of links to social media sites. The above images are sized for Facebook cover photos with easy links to do so. You can also follow each respective style's Pinterest board. Brilliant social media links all around. Kudos!

Check it out, what are you?

Branding Quiz

Dear Blogger,
I'm sorry I've neglected you. I have 5 posts in the draft pile, just sitting there, waiting patiently to be polished, shined, and ready for posting. I pinky-promise if I get it together and finish my class project Thursday night I'll work on getting at least one of you up in the next couple of years months.

But for now... I came across this abstract branding quiz on FastCompany. I'm ashamed to admit my score, let's just say it was challenging in a good way. This is a great demonstration on how powerful color can be in branding.

The Dewey Color System

I've always love, love, loved color. One of my favorite parts of being a designer is selecting colors to match the personality of the project. Maybe that's why my personal color preferences are so fickle... they're always changing to adapt to the colors that I'm currently working with.

A work, we're working on a branding project and my Art Director brought in Neenah Paper's promotional piece: Olive is not drab. (A particularly captivating title for me, as olive is creeping up in the ranking of my favorite colors) It is a beautifully constructed color manual based on The Dewey Color System, according to Neenah: "the world's only scientifically validated, color-based personality testing instrument."

While, they no longer have the "Olive is not drab." promotional piece available, they have converted some of the components to a web-based format.

There's a simple test based on the Dewey Color System to understand how the color preferences and combinations you select can reveal some shade of your personality. Mine?

Another, perhaps even more useful tool, is their Color Unleashed: "It's the first proven system that lets you explore the psychological meanings of color, ink and paper combinations." Pretty cool.

Color Career Counselor

Another quiz. I am flabbergasted by this one... a color test that can predict possible career occupations, all by placing colors in order of your preference. Seriously? That's absolutely amazing. Check it out here. Mine is pretty accurate:

Best Occupational Category

You're a CREATOR

Keywords

Nonconforming, Impulsive, Expressive, Romantic, Intuitive, Sensitive, and Emotional

These original types place a high value on aesthetic qualities and have a great need for self-expression. They enjoy working independently, being creative, using their imagination, and constantly learning something new. Fields of interest are art, drama, music, and writing or places where they can express, assemble, or implement creative ideas.

CREATOR OCCUPATIONS
Suggested careers are Advertising Executive, Architect, Web Designer, Creative Director, Public Relations, Fine or Commercial Artist, Interior Decorator, Lawyer, Librarian, Musician, Reporter, Art Teacher, Broadcaster, Technical Writer, English Teacher, Architect, Photographer, Medical Illustrator, Corporate Trainer, Author, Editor, Landscape Architect, Exhibit Builder, and Package Designer.

CREATOR WORKPLACES

2nd Best Occupational Category

You're a RESEARCHER

These investigative types gather information, analyze and interpret data, and inquire to uncover new facts. They have a strong scientific orientation, enjoy academic or research environments and prefer self-reliant jobs. Dislikes are group projects, selling, and repetitive activities.

Mellow Yellow

Whew! It has been an extremely busy year so far! I hope the rest of 2010 isn't this crazy. Here's something I haven't done in a while, a color/personality quiz from True Value.

I'm Yellow:
You are quite the powerful thinker. It’s this talent that allows you to overcome a plethora of great obstacles. Luckily, this doesn’t affect your ego and you give off a pretty easy-going appearance. You enjoy the finer things in life and also have an attraction to art. If you can help it, you try not to rock the boat. But you also can’t stop yourself from searching for new ideas, methods or styles.

Pretty accurate. I like yellow... and lemons.

For you and yours

Valspar offers an online quiz to find your couple style and offers paint color suggestions based on your answers. Although I'm not sure how accurate it is... I took it with my boyfriend (after assuring him it was not a Cosmo quiz) and it gave us "Relaxed" as a result. Color-wise it might be pretty close with blues, pale greens, and greys, but old rose? No thank you. Also, it's either ridiculously intuitive or lucky because it mentions our "eco-conscious style" in the results, although neither of us answered with eco-conscious answers.
What's your couple style?

Relaxed:
You're in perfect harmony when it comes to your eye for the simple yet functional. When it comes to your home decor, eco-conscious style, like natural textures, tones and sustainable furnishings can play a big part. Take your love of the outdoors and find inspiration in nature, with warm neutrals.
Also, blues, pale greens, greys, old rose and cold purple complement your easy-going style. Check out Caraway Seed 3005-9C, Tender Shell 1006-10C, Sweet Mint 5005-5B, Baked Stone 3007-6B and Breezy 4007-7C.

Another style quiz...

...just in case you don't quite have it figured out yet!

This time the quiz is from sproost.com, which asks you to rate different decorating styles from love it to hate it. It's interesting because I took the quiz twice and each time I was given different images to rate, resulting in some very different outcomes. The first time it tells me I'm contemporary and clean; that I stay away from antiques and vintage collections, the second time I took the quiz it says you can find me at the flea market! It looks like the percentages are correct; a pretty equal combination of Vintage Modern and Contemporary, with a slice of Rustic/Cottage.

Test your Color IQ

On Friday my good friend, Jessie, sent me this little quiz to test your color IQ. I'm proud to say, I scored a 4 (zero is the best) and something like 1400+ is the highest (worst). Apparently I am slightly deficient in the low purple-blue areas. Test your Color IQ!

Colorstrology

I saw this Colorstrology book created by Pantone Inc. at Paper-Source a couple of months ago and was surprised at how well it matched me. How About Orange recently posted the internet version.

April 24 . Ultramarine (Pantone 17-4037)
Creative . Responsible . Nurturing
You are creative and talented and can achieve success and monetary wealth by connecting your abilities with action. The performing arts are a good vehicle for you and many people born on this day have lovely voices (ok, not all of it fits me!). Sensual and attractive, you are capable of pulling good things toward you. Being in a loving relationship is vital to your well-being and you need someone who is attentive and devoted. Your personal color helps to balance your moods. Wearing, meditating or surround yourself with Ultramarine integrates your need for artistic freedom with financial security.

Kitsch Chic

I found this fun style quiz on the How About Orange blog. Just choose pictures you like in response to the questions. I did this about three times, changing up some of my answers and my style always turned out to be Kitsch Chic:
"You're always on the look-out for retro-style things that will add happiness and personality to your home. You love to mix old and new to create an interior design cocktail that's easy, fun and whimsical. Your outlook is shaped by a love of design from the recent past. All of these details are useful design references for furnishing your living room: this is a look that is fun and optimistic, but also streamlined and knowingly nostalgic.
You have a place for everything and everything has its place. The modernist adage that form should follow function is nowhere better demonstrated than in the home office: keep things simple and add your own sense of style by using a splash of colour or a single, well-chosen decorative piece. Your home reveals your fun-loving, whimsical side - the look is nostalgically modern and elegant with a cheeky twist."

I also chose images for what I thought my mom would be, her style was defined as Classic Chic:
"Your home is a serene and elegant haven displaying some beautiful pieces of furniture. You take great care in how a room is put together and you are justly proud of the refined, understated look you have created. What may look effortless, however, requires dedicated time and a discerning eye in order to achieve that welcoming feel of lived-in grandeur.
Your living room is a welcoming haven of grace and fine taste, it's a style that errs towards formality. Rustic accessories will give the room a surprising edge, but they need not be incongruous -- the humble milking stool, for example, has many classic attributes after all. Earthy colours work well in both rural and urban settings, while linen textiles and soft furnishings never go out of style. You combine period influences with clever solutions to the practicalities of day-to-day modern living."

Again, I chose images for Jon's style and he ended up being Gentlemen's Club/City Slicker Chic:
"Your home is quite a masculine environment, but it's nonetheless comfortable, with an air of well-worn maturity: you enjoy the good things in life, and that includes the furniture and furnishings around you. What could look quite conservative is, in fact, seriously self-indulgent - in the very best sense, of course, as every dream home should be.
You're a bonafide alpha-male entertainer. At home, cool, sleek, masculine lines and colours give your dining area that slick, 'stealth wealth' feel. You can avoid it all becoming too clinical through careful use of colour and texture."

Mom & Jon, you'll have to let me know if I got it right!
